This classic route combines New Mexico’s stunning western scenery with curvy mountain roads and fascinating historical sites. SR 4 is my favorite portion of the longer Jemez Scenic Byway. 

This route is a surefire recipe for exciting both the senses and sensibilities. Although the designated route is just 90 miles long, the points of interest will make the experience an unforgettable full-day adventure.

Leaving historic Los Alamos, you’ll begin your journey into the Jemez Mountains. SR 4 is your lodestar for a veritable magic carpet ride in this remote landscape of the Land of Enchantment.
