Classic Roads: Bluewater Highway & Seawall Boulevard
Any time I can ride alongside an ocean on a motorcycle, I will do it. Make that motorcycle a new Indian Super Chief Limited, and I have a great excuse to spend some time island hopping in south Texas. The perfect combination of cruising and ocean is riding from Surfside Beach to Galveston, starting on the Bluewater Highway (CR 257) and finishing on Seawall Blvd (FM 3005).
Ocean Cruising
At just over 40 miles, plan on taking about an hour if you don’t stop along the way. This road is less about the twisties and hills and more about the sights and sounds. This part of Texas is flat and straight, and the speed limits are relatively low, so settle in and enjoy the ocean breeze.
Start your ride by pointing your bike northeast from Surfside Beach and take in the view. All the houses are on stilts, some exceptionally tall, and all of them look different. Most of them are summer homes or rentals, so you can spend a couple of days in Surfside before hitting the road. The ocean is a constant on your right shoulder, as is the ocean breeze.
