City Escape: Texarkana, Texas
The city of Texarkana straddles the border of Texas and Arkansas. It’s a thriving community in the 21st century, but many of the region’s historic sites are off the beaten path and largely unknown. This City Escape route takes riders back to the 18th century, when this area was a gateway for emigrants traveling to new settlements opened in the American Southwest. In addition to history, riders will enjoy a gentle cruise along roads less traveled.
The topography is hilly and forested in some areas, but in others it is a flatter agricultural landscape. This route circles the Red River flood plain where the northeast corner of Texas meets Arkansas. Straight sections of road are broken up with some sweeping curves to challenge any street rider. The roads are generally in good condition with some tar snakes and rough spots.
