Capacity’s Fearless Adventure: A Coast-to-Coast Adventure
I always wanted to do a cross-country solo ride, but I had no idea how to break it to my business partner. This past summer, he entered my office and announced, “I’m going to Europe for a month.”
“Enjoy!” I said. “I’ll hold down the fort—but when you get back…!”
We own Capacity Bookkeeping and Capacity Marketing, so I thought why not chronicle the trip and raise money and awareness for Fearless! Hudson Valley, a non-profit organization whose mission of helping abuse and trafficking victims spoke to me. Capacity’s Fearless Adventure stickers were ordered, a fund set up, and plans set to leave on September 5.
We would arrive back home to present a check during the Domestic Abuse Awareness month. Perfect timing!
The Preparation
Traveling from New York to Canada and back across the middle of the U.S. over 24 days (while trying to avoid traffic) entails long stretches of lonely roads, elevation and temperature changes, and cell reception issues. I plotted every hotel and gas station along the way on my favorite app, Kurviger.
The left pannier held a week’s worth of street clothes, the right my tools and medical supplies. In the top case were my laptop, water, meat sticks, and so forth.
I was prepared for a temperature range of 20 to 100, and just about any injury or repair.
