Review: WLF Enduro Pack Vest

Packing light on any adventure is critical, but it doesn’t necessarily mean you have to leave anything at home. Through many adventures, I’ve realized that having quick access to the most vital items is a top priority. The WLF Enduro Pack Vest makes that possible.
A Farewell to Backpacks
I’ve ridden close to 30,000 miles with my Pack Vest, mostly on multi-day adventures in the remote backcountry. My top packing priority is to ensure that everything I need is immediately reachable, whether I’m on or off the bike. I have the first-generation vest in black and the latest version in copper. The second-generation model features a few minor upgrades to an otherwise top-notch system.
With a dedicated pocket for a 0.8-gallon hydration bladder (not included), you’ve got plenty of room for liquids. Without a bladder, the pouch serves as additional storage with an internal sleeve and a zippered pocket. Three separate pouches adorn the Pack Vest’s exterior, with a larger pouch in the rear and two smaller ones up front. Each pouch is chock-full of possibilities for configuration and organization, with a sleeve compartment and elastic bands in the front pouches and multiple elastic straps and zippered sleeves in the rear.

The most impressive aspect of the Pack Vest is its modularity and adjustability. With plenty of additional strap length, it can fit a multitude of body types. The wide elastic waist straps ensure things stay snug and don’t bounce around on the trail. The shoulder straps are wide and heavily-padded for all-day comfort. On the downside, the Cordura material can get very dirty and it’s not fully waterproof—just something to be aware of if the sky opens up.
With nearly every panel full of proper-spec MOLLE webbing, you can add additional pouches, adjust the placement of the existing ones, or remove them for an ultralight, minimalistic setup. The Pack Vest includes additional straps and buckles that allow you to remove the front pouches and run with a simple backpack-type setup. If I’m looking to do a quick hike or want to shed weight, it takes seconds to convert the vest. On extended adventures, I often add pouches to carry spare camera items, first aid, or tools. WLF Enduro also sells additional pouches you can fix to the sides and back of the vest.
The Pack Vest’s balanced distribution means that I could barely feel the weight. I’ve spent many 12-hour riding days in a row with my vest on all day, experiencing next to no fatigue. The waist strap system and large elastic bands keep the vest snugly against your waist, relieving additional pressure from your shoulders. Keeping this weight off the bike translates to a lighter machine, and having all your vital belongings close at hand and securely mounted gives you instant access to them when you need it the most.
I’ve often asked my friends to feel how heavy my vest is, fully loaded with a filled water bladder and everything else on board, and they’re always amazed. Despite it all, I barely notice the weight. If you’re not used to a vest system, you might notice a bit less airflow and breathability during riding, but you’ll get used to it. If you’re looking for an extremely well designed alternative to a backpack, with all the modularity, adjustability, and storage space you need, look no further.
