Review: Sena Stryker and Impulse Smart Helmets

Every rider certainly knows just how crucial a good helmet is. Recently, I discovered Sena’s smart helmets, and they’ve completely changed the game.

The two models that stand out specifically in the Sena catalog are the Stryker full-face helmet and the Impulse modular helmet. They both share qualities that make them top choices for riders, but each still comes with its unique features.

Let’s take a look at what makes these helmets so special.

Staying Connected on the Road

One of the best things about the Sena Stryker and Impulse was how they kept me connected while I was riding. Both helmets come with Sena's Mesh Intercom technology, making it easy to communicate with your fellow riders.

Whether I was riding with a big group or just a few friends, these helmets had me covered. I could use Open Mesh for open networks or Group Mesh for private chats with up to 24 riders. Their Bluetooth 5.0 compatibility also allowed me to seamlessly connect to my smartphone, GPS, or other Bluetooth devices.

The Impulse.

But the best part was that the communication systems were pre-installed. I could connect right out of the box.

The connection range is also notably long, reaching up to 1.2 miles for both Bluetooth and Mesh intercoms in open terrain. The Mesh intercom can extend up to five miles between a minimum of six riders.

Audio quality is a big deal for me, and both the Stryker and Impulse deliver. They have built-in Harman Kardon speakers and advanced noise control systems that filter out wind and road noise. This meant I could enjoy clear communication and my favorite music while riding.

These helmets are incredibly user-friendly. They work with Sena’s easy-to-navigate app, which let me manage settings, receive firmware updates, and control various functions effortlessly.

The battery life on the helmets is also quite impressive. I got 18 hours of talk time on Bluetooth and 11 hours on Mesh. Charging takes about 2.5 hours, which is pretty efficient for regular use.

Comfortable and Cool

Comfort on long rides is a must, and good ventilation is key. The Stryker and Impulse helmets have multiple air vents to keep you cool and prevent overheating.

They both have an intermediate oval fitment, although I found that each felt a little different. It would be worth trying them on and comparing them yourself.

The Stryker.

Convenience is a big plus with these helmets. The built-in communication buttons were easy to reach and use, even while riding with gloves on. With voice commands, I could have a hands-free experience, that included playing music, adjusting volume, or answering calls without taking my hands off the handlebar.

The helmets also come with a retractable sun visor that I could quickly adapt to changing light conditions without having to switch face shields.

The Sena Stryker and Sena Impulse smart helmets have so many features that make riding safer, more comfortable, and more enjoyable. With top-notch communication, crystal-clear audio, user-friendly connectivity, and thoughtful convenience features, these helmets are a great choice for any ride.
