Review: Mosko Moto Reckless 80L Luggage System

The Mosko Moto Reckless 80L rack-less luggage system makes a tantalizing promise of rugged durability, light-and-tight capacity, and weather-beating prowess. It’s tailored for off-road adventures, Backcountry Discovery Routes, and international fly-to-ride trips.

Coming in a three-piece design, the luggage system is easy to disassemble and pack into a rollaboard luggage bag for convenient travel. Designed with versatility in mind, the Reckless 80 features adjustable leg angles to accommodate various bike sizes and riding styles.

Its expandable and contractible construction allows for adapting the volume based on riding conditions.

Equipped with multidirectional MOLLE, two leg strap mounting settings, and low-profile non-slip cam buckles, the Reckless 80 is a convenient solution. Mosko Moto prioritizes sustainability by using recycled materials and eco-friendly treatments for waterproofing the bag.

Close-up

I tested the Reckless 80L through the desert trails of Vegas, Arizona, and Baja California, encountering unpredictable weather conditions. It held its own, even after a whiskey throttle, multiple cactus encounters, and slow-speed “offies.”

I was pleased with the three-bag organization. The interchangeable 25-liter leg bags are attached with grab handles and feature clear panels to show what’s in each. They slide into an outer holster and seat well with pull handles.

Opting for optimal practicality, I upgraded from the standard 22-liter Stinger tail bag to the roomier Scout 30. This swap provided extra packing space for essential gear.

I relish the quick-access items, so I've added four-liter dry bag auxiliary pockets to the system for storing essentials, like an inner tube and chair. The two rear beavertails offer convenient storage for my motorcycle jacket and unwanted layers, with clear inside pockets for toiletries. This adaptable storage system meets my changing needs throughout the ride.

Considerations

There are nuances to consider. Beware of the high heat from the exhaust on Husqvarna 701, Gas Gas 700, and KTM 690—use the included heat shield or an aftermarket equivalent.

Despite the rackless system, designed for agile exploration, Reckless 80 isn’t a featherlight offering. I consciously introduced a rear rack into the equation.

Adding a rear rack took some weight off the aluminum sub-frame, which is crucial for durability on an extensive ride. This nuanced approach complements the Reckless 80's design, ensuring longevity and enduring support.

Navigating the intricacies of the Reckless 80 setup demands a meticulous approach to ensure a secure and hassle-free ride. Remember to fasten every buckle and tighten every strap for the leg panniers and the tail bag. The clever Velcro ends play a pivotal role—always employ them to keep any lengthy straps as short as possible, mitigating any entanglement with your motorcycle.

Pay particular attention to the main straps on the beavertail. Fasten them through the grab handles of the Scout 30, preventing any unwanted lateral movement, especially when the tail bag is laden.

A workaround involved adding industrial-strength Velcro beneath (imitating what’s already on the Stinger 22), augmenting the bag's stability. As an added precaution, I utilized zip ties to secure the harnesses’ longer straps near the chain, facilitating a snare-free journey.

The Reckless Revolution

Frankly, the Mosko Moto Reckless 80 system has revolutionized my soft luggage setup. This versatile companion caters to my needs for adventurous off-roading and long-distance riding.

Although it's not without its price tag and quirks, such as its weight, potential for bag shifting, and the recommendation of adding a rear rack to protect the sub-frame on smaller bikes, the merits triumph.
