Kawasaki Updates KLX300 Lineup with New Features and Models

Although marketed as a beginner bike, Kawasaki’s KLX300 model line has proven such a hit among more experienced riders that dealers often struggle to keep them in stock. For the upcoming 2027 model year, Kawasaki has introduced mechanical updates to the KLX300 family, which culminate in two new models.

The update the majority of riders are probably the most interested in is the upgraded engine that powers all 2027 KLX300 bikes. Kawasaki has reworked some of the 292cc liquid-cooled powerplant’s internals, delivering a modest increase in horsepower and torque. The new engine generates 26.8 ponies at 8,000 rpm (as opposed to 25) and 18.4 lb-ft at 6,800 rpm (instead of 17.7).

Kawi has also given the KLX300 family front-wheel ABS, which should maintain your ability to control the rear wheel. On most models, the ABS is defeatable. The system comes with a new, shorter brake lever to  accommodate it.

On the tech side, the bikes receive new all-digital instrumentation. The LCD panel retains the previous hexagonal design but weighs less and is more compact. Finally, the bikes have gained smartphone connectivity through Kawasaki’s Rideology app, enabling vehicle information display, navigation, and voice commands.

New Bikes

With the feature updates, Kawasaki has also introduced two new models for 2027: the KLX300 XPL and KLX300 DF. The former is an adventure-equipped model, while the latter adds some ruggedness to the base motorcycle.

The KLX300 XPL comes with a tall windshield and handguards to protect adventure riders from the elements and debris. A rear carrier hauls your luggage, while a round, 5.1-inch high/low beam headlight, harkening back to old-school bulb-powered lamps, lights your way. The bike also has retro-inspired graphics on its Ebony black paint.

The KLX 300 DF is closer to the base model but adds the handguards and rear luggage rack. It also comes with blacked-out components and a Medium Cloudy Gray color scheme for a suitably earthy appearance.

In addition, the 2027 lineup features the KX300 SM, a street-focused model with a sportier rake angle, shorter suspension travel, and a larger front brake disc.

The 2027 Kawasaki KLX300 models will be available in January 2027. The base KLX300 retails for $5,999, the KLX300 SM for $6,399, the KLX300 DF for $6,299, and the KLX300 XPL for $6,499.
