KTM Launches New 2025 390 Adventure Lineup

KTM is venturing off-road with its new 2025 390 Adventure range of motorcycles. Consisting of two bikes, the lineup has something to offer to adventurers whether they prefer gravel or pavement.

The 2025 390 Adventure R and the 390 Adventure X are both nimble middleweight motorcycles capable of tackling a variety of terrains. Being siblings, they share a lot, while still coming into their own in different ways.

Powering both motorcycles is KTM’s updated 399cc liquid-cooled four-stroke LC4c engine, familiar from the most recent 390 Duke model. Mated to a six-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch, the powerplant puts out 45 horsepower. The fuel capacity sits at 3.69 gallons.

The two-piece steel trellis frame is based on that of the smaller-capacity Duke, Enduro R, and SMC R bikes. However, KTM has tweaked various attributes, from rigidity to footpeg positioning, to accommodate longer riding days both on- and off-road. The swingarm is lifted from the 390 Enduro and 390 SMC R models to offer a more dirt-resistant design.

Looking at the suspension, we start spotting differences. The 390 Adventure R features a 43mm open-cartridge WP Apex fork that offers nine inches of travel and compression and rebound adjustability. Rear bumps are sucked up by a WP Apex Separate shock, also coming with nine travel inches and adjustability for rebound and preload.

Meanwhile, the street-oriented 390 Adventure X features a non-adjustable 43mm open-cartridge WP Apex fork with 7.8 inches of travel. The rear shock is a WP Apex Emulsion unit with identical travel and preload adjustability.

Brakes on both motorcycles are Bembro ByBre units, with a 320mm floating disc with dual pistons up front and a 240mm disc with a single piston in the rear. Both bikes also have new adjustable brake levers and pump components, and have a selectable off-road ABS that remembers the current setting even after turning the ignition off.

Each motorcycle’s unique character is apparent in the choice of wheels and rubber. The Adventure R’s 21/18-inch spoked wheels are shod with Mitas Enduro Trail E07+ tires, while the Adventure X’s 19/17-inch cast wheels wear unspecified street-focused tires.

In the tech department, the Adventure X comes with Street and Off-Road riding modes, while the Adventure R also adds a Rain mode. Both bikes offer traction control, the difference being that the R model is lean-sensitive, while the X isn’t. A quickshifter and cruise control are available as optional additions.

For controlling the tech suite, the bikes feature a five-inch display, TFT on the Adventure R and LCD on the Adventure X. The bikes also feature completely redesigned backlit switchgear, and can connect to the KTM mobile app for turn-by-turn navigation and other features.

Style-wise, the bikes take cues from the rally world, with a slim body profile and a tall windshield and instrument tower. The Adventure R comes in a single white/orange/black colorway, while the Adventure X lets you choose between white/orange/black and orange/black paint.

The 2025 KTM 390 Adventure R retails for $6,999 and the Adventure X for $5,899. The bikes arrive in dealerships in April 2025.
