Harley-Davidson Rolls Out New Street Glide ST and Road Glide ST Bikes
Harley-Davidson fans love their classics, but even they want something new every now and then. For 2020, the Motor Company delivers with the introduction of the new Street Glide ST and Road Glide ST models.
Based on H-D’s championship-winning Screamin’ Eagle race bikes, the new motorcycles bring that bagger performance to the street. Both dark-clad bikes feature the oil/air-cooled, 1917cc Milwaukee-Eight 117 V-twin engine that delivers 127 lb-ft of torque at 3,750 rpm. The engine sports a high-performance camshaft, a high-flow intake, and high-performance exhaust to bring the most displacement and torque out of any regular-production H-D engine.
But just an engine doesn’t make a bike. Let’s look at the Glides and see what else they have to offer.
Street Glide ST
The Street Glide ST features the distinctive H-D batwing fairing. Its splitstream vent, together with a low-profile dark windshield, work to reduce head buffeting during riding.
A Heavy Breather intake, with a forward-facing exposed air cleaner element, boosts the bike’s performance-first styling. To keep with the design cues, the Street Glide ST has received a new solo seat, and has a low-profile engine guards and tank console, with side fuel fill. All these elements help differentiate the motorcycle from H-D’s other touring models.
To suck up bumps on the road, the Street Glide ST comes with emulsion-technology rear shock absorbers, with simple hydraulically adjustable preload. In the front, the bike’s 49mm forks with dual bending valve suspension technology create a smooth riding experience. To stop its Prodigy cast aluminum wheels from spinning, the ST comes standard with ABS Brembo brakes.
The bike is available in two colorways—Vivid Black and Gunship Gray. In either case, it sports blacked-out styling in the front end, controls, powertrain, and exhaust, while touches of Matte Dark Bronze on the wheels, lower rocker box, and timer and intake medallions give it some timeless class.
H-D has replaced the extended bags of the Street Glide Special model with standard-length ones on the ST. Other goodies on the bike include electronic cruise control, a Boom! Box GTS infotainment system with a color touch screen and fairing-mounted speakers, and Daymaker LED headlights.
As a cherry on top of it all, H-D’s Smart Security System keeps unwelcome riders off the bike.
Road Glide ST
The feature list of the Road Glide ST looks much like that of its brother’s. It sports the same engine, suspension, brakes, wheels, solo seat, saddlebags, low-profile engine guards and tank console, black-and-bronze finishes, and other goodies as the Street Glide.
The differences come in with the styling. The Road Glide ST has the aerodynamic shark nose fairing. Like the Street Glide ST’s fairing, it reduces wind buffeting, but it does so with triple splitstream venting instead.
The family resemblance between the two bikes is in no way a negative, though. Both make great new machines for tackling the open road.
Corner with Care
As an option, H-D also offers its Cornering Ride Safety Enhancements for both the Street Glide ST and the Road Glide ST. This technology package includes various electronic rider aids to help you maintain your intended trajectory when blasting through curves.
The package includes cornering electronically linked brakes, cornering-ABS, cornering-traction control with modes, drag torque slip control, vehicle hold, and tire pressure monitoring.
The Street Glide ST and Road Glide ST are currently available, both starting at $29,999.
