Dawn of the REVVolution
REVVolution Rally 2021
The evolution of the Revvolution Rally began roughly 15 years ago with the creation of the Women’s Sportbike Rally, which brought hundreds of sportbike-riding women together from around the country. Historically, the event took place in fall at the Deal’s Gap Motorcycle Resort in Robbinsville, NC. Deal’s Gap, or the Tail of the Dragon, is a unique motorcycling destination famous for its 318 curves in 11 miles.
In 2021, however, the event changed its name to Revvolution Rally in an effort to refocus the rally and get back to its roots. Revvolution Rally, in its own words, seeks to create a women-centric motorcycling community. The aim of the event is to help women find not only new riding friends, but also themselves, and to build lasting relationships with riding destinations.
To that end, Revolution Rally welcomed all bikes and skill levels in 2021, instead of only sportbikes. With this structure the organizers wanted to allow new riders to learn from their more experienced comrades by sharing stories, riding experiences, and motorcycle knowledge. At the same time, the attendees could network to make new friends and discover new places to ride.
To go along with its women-centric goals (although men are invited to attend as well), Revvolution Rally partnered with various small women-owned businesses to create its merchandise and event attractions. By giving the business owners a chance to speak with attendees in person and showcase their products, the event wants to provide them with meaningful support. This year, Wind & Throttle sponsored the Revvolution Rally goodie bags, Valkyrie Brand provided the T-shirts, and McInturff Photography helped with moto portrait sessions.
Revvolution Rally followed a less structured format than its predecessor, allowing attendees to spend time with one another without having to run off to catch a seminar or special presentation. This environment allows women riders more time to come together on a deeper level with people who have the same passions—not to mention, do more riding.
In 2022, Revvolution Rally is planning to host three events across the country, gathering women riders from the midwest and the east and west coasts. The east coast event is set to remain at the familiar Deal’s Gap location, but the other two events will take place in other regions. These “destination events” are planned to cater to all riders. Their goal is to help bike-riding women build a connection with the places they visit and to fall in love with the local areas. The event aims to promote more moto-tourism and travel (as well as repeat rally attendance) by showing riders how fun it is to discover, explore, and experience a new place with friends both new and old.
