5 New York State Hotels for a Romantic Moto Weekend
Motorcycling through the fantastic environs of New York is a great way to connect with another person. Whether you’re both on your own bikes or one is hugging the other from behind on the pillion seat, a shared riding experience is always something special.
But once the night falls, you need somewhere cozy to lay your head. An appropriate hotel choice can take your couple’s motorcycle trip to whole new heights.
Here are six romantic hotels in New York State that lovebirds shouldn’t miss.
Inns of Aurora - Aurora
The Inns of Aurora in the peaceful village of Aurora, NY, is a great place to stay for a weekend (or longer) spent exploring the Finger Lakes region. Consisting of five different inns and a cottage, the Inns of Aurora has a variety of room sizes available to suit every kind of riding trip.
There’s private parking right by each inn for safely leaving your motorcycle for the night. The well-maintained, clean rooms offer complimentary coffee and granola bars for a pre- or post-ride energy boost.
A short jaunt up the road takes you to the spa facilities, where you can soak and warm your ride-weary bones with that special someone. Food isn’t far, either—there’s a top-notch restaurant in the main inn building and various other options within walking distance.
The Finger Lakes area is gorgeous and filled with little roads for zipping and zooming right down to the water’s edge. As a particular highlight, the 17-mile ride from Watkins Glen to Hammondsport might be short but it is stunning, and you can end the day at the Glenn Curtis aviation and motorcycling museum.
Red Coach Inn - Niagara Falls
The Red Coach Inn in Niagara Falls celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2023. It’s easy to see how this comfortable, intimate hotel has managed to stay in business all those years.
You’ll find plenty of space for spreading out your gear in the large rooms, up to 600 square feet in the suites. There’s free parking conveniently right outside the guest rooms, so your bike won’t be far away. Each room sports a coffee maker for warming yourself up after a ride.
Furnished in English country fashion, the quiet hotel right by the famous falls offers a cozy setting for cuddling up at night. If a candle-lit dinner at the excellent on-site restaurant doesn’t do it for you, you have plenty of options surrounding the inn.
Niagara Parkway (River Rd) on the Canadian side of the border is a fun nearby ride. Niagara Falls is also one of the best places to view the 2024 eclipse, so why not plan a couple-y solar tour terminating here?
Whiteface Lodge - Lake Placid
No one’s saying you can’t snuggle up in a tent, but it’s hard to deny that a touch of luxury adds a lot to the romance. If it’s luxury you’re after, you can’t do much better than Whiteface Lodge.
Nestled in the heart of the Adirondacks by Lake Placid, Whiteface Lodge takes you back to the glamor of the Gilded Age. The available suites and rooms are huge, with all the space you could need for yourselves and your gear. Plentiful parking is available nearby and it’s easy to find free spots near the entrance.
After you arrive, you might find it hard to leave this romantic hideout. Everything you need, from hot tubs to restaurants, fishing, campfires, ice skating, and more is right here.
Whiteface Lodge is a great base for venturing out on a motorcycle, too. Might I suggest hitting the Adirondack Trail Scenic Byway (SR 28/30)—if you didn’t take it to the lodge, that is.
For the sake of transparency, Whiteface Lodge can be pretty pricey, especially during the high season. But if you’re after an unparalleled luxury couple’s retreat, it’s worth it.
Hotel Vienna - Windham
Looking for peace, quiet, and the chance to be with just the two of you? Hotel Vienna in Windham is your cozy getaway where you can dedicate yourselves to each other.
The rooms are well-sized and comfortable yet clutter-free, allowing you to spread out your gear while you take in the mountain views. A complimentary continental breakfast gives you the personal fuel for your moto adventures. And if you two get to be close here, so does your bike—you can park right outside certain rooms (and even with those in the back, your precious motorcycle won’t be far).
What makes this hotel so romantic, though, is the property. The surrounding Catskills are absolutely gorgeous and the two-mile Windham Path near the hotel is fantastic for a hand-in-hand walk in the woods.
Of course, there’s also all the thrilling motorcycling you can do in the Catskills. Hotel Vienna sits right next to SR 23, or the Mohican Trail. You can also follow the roads marked SR 23 and 23A to ride the 70-mile Mountain Clove Loop, which skirts right by the hotel as well.
The Inn at Erlowest
Gorgeous lakeside views, beautiful historical furnishings, and easy access to great riding. That’s what the Inn at Erlowest has in store for you and your dearest.
This resort—built in 1898—offers extra-large rooms and even entire townhouses, so having the space for you two and all your stuff is a non-issue. As a nice touch, some of the suites come with double walk-in showers—so you can easily wash your gear, of course. You can also leave your bike right by the villas and townhouses.
As a small tip, the Inn at Erlowest offers a lot of wedding packages. It’s bound to be a romantic location whether two motorcyclists tie the knot here or not.
There’s a fine dining restaurant on-site with other dining options just up and down the road in Lake George and Diamond Point. Located in the Adirondacks, the Inn at Erlowest makes it easy to hit any of the area’s 14 scenic byways, or to venture out into Vermont.
