2024 Honda Mid-Sized Lineup
New model year, new bikes. Well, at least newer. Honda might be famous for some of its large bikes, like the Gold Wing, but the Japanese company’s mid-sized catalog is just as, if not more, famous. For this category, Honda has rolled out three upgraded models: the 2024 NX500, CBR500R, and the CB500F.
But wait, NX500? Isn’t that a new bike? Not at all. This motorcycle was called the CB500X in 2023, but this year brought on a name change that harkens back to Honda’s machines from the ‘80s. Aside from one new model name, the bike trio has received some notable tweaks, from lighter weight to new bodywork.
According to Honda, each update aims to improve the overall riding experience for pilots of all skill levels, from newbie to expert. “We’re confident that each of these bikes will remain at the forefront of its respective category and continue to deliver memorable rides for years to come,” Colin Miller, assistant PR manager for American Honda, stated.
2024 Honda NX500
The 2024 NX500, as mentioned, is the new CB500X. Honda chose to switch the bike over to the NX moniker (standing for “New X-over”) to highlight the motorcycle’s capacity to take on both asphalt and gravel. It also calls back to the Honda NX650 Dominator ADV machine, manufactured in 1988-89 in the U.S. (it survived in Europe until 2003).
But what else sets the 2024 NX500 apart from the 2023 CB500X? The engine block now comes with the Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC, the company’s branded traction control system). The suspension components and travel remain the same (5.9 inches front, 5.3 inches rear) but Honda has fine-tuned the suspension settings for a smoother ride. The wheels are a bit lighter, lowering the bike’s overall curb weight by seven pounds to 432 pounds. There are also some styling changes, but the motorcycle remains mostly recognizable.
The 2024 Honda NX500 is available in Matte Black Metallic for $7,399.
2024 Honda CBR500R
The CBR500R has put on new clothes for 2024. The new, sharper look is inspired by the renowned Fireblade sport bike, and the update brings with it a redesigned, winglet-equipped fairing for better aerodynamics and handling. Other upgrades include a new five-inch TFT display that comes with the aforementioned HSTC system and a new pair of LED headlights to keep the track brightly lit. In terms of mechanical specs, the bike remains the same apart from a slight increase in front suspension travel from 4.3 to 4.7 inches.
The 2024 Honda CBR500R comes in Matte Black Metallic and Grand Prix Red at an MSRP of $7,399.
2024 Honda CB500F
Last but not least is the 2024 CB500F naked bike, which has also received a facelift. The new design is a smidge more angular and aggressive, and it should also improve the motorcycle’s aerodynamic characteristics. Like the CBR500R, the CB500F also gets the new TFT display and HSTC. Otherwise, it remains the same relatively affordable lightweight street fighter.
The 2024 Honda CB500F retails for $6,899 and comes in Matte Metallic Black.
